Teaching my kindergartener to read.

January 27, 2020

My five year old can read!

It has been five months since I introduced this program to her. We have been practicing every day, keeping her on a schedule to learn how to read. She has read over 50 books and counting with learning over 300 hundred new words.

She enjoys her lessons at school, but I wanted to take it a step further and challenge her to the next level. Is this too much? Any opportunity to learn is always a great way to grow!

I downloaded this program called Hooked on Phonics on our Ipad. At first, she was learning words, then short sentences, and now at the very last stage, she has been reading paragraphs. Each level challenges her to exceed more. If she has trouble completing the book, we work on it a few more times until she’s comfortable reading the book herself. I could not be more proud of her!

This program taught my child the sounds and skills to engage and be confident in reading. This 24 step program advanced her reading skills to the next level keeping it fun and entertaining at the same time.

It’s encouraging to see how much progress she’s made, and the reward systems get her excited every time she completes it.

Every night after bath time, she has been reading her books from her collection throughout the years. It’s so rewarding to see how much she has progressed with this program. I love how excited she gets to read books now.

Practice, Practice, Practice!

Consistency is key!

I highly recommend this if you’re interested in teaching your child to read.
