If you haven’t seen my new year goals, I’ve made a monthly challenge for myself to enjoy reading/listening to more books.
After all, I’m encouraging my girls to read more, and I need to do the same for myself.
Here is my list.
Main Characters: Lauren and Ryan
Summary: Lauren and Ryan had this perfect idea of what marriage is supposed to be like, but things took a turn for them, giving them the decision to take a year apart with no contact. This year off gives them the time they need to find themselves and figure out if this marriage is worth coming back to or separating completely.
Rating: 4 – I almost didn’t make it through the first chapters of reading this book. It was sweet at first, then all the arguments came, and it felt like I was in the middle of it. Haha! The decision to spend a year apart with no contact made my gut sink. I don’t know if I could’ve done that, but it was the right decision for them to realize the relationship’s full potential. I think I ended up crying towards the end. It was a beautiful book about marriage. The good, the bad, and the ugly.
Main Characters: N/A
Summary: Mark Manson argues that everything about society has chased the wrong things in pursuit of happiness and the meaning of life. We care too much about things that don’t matter and don’t make us happy in the long run.
This book is intended to help you:
- Clarify what is important and unimportant to you.
- Realize that giving a f*ck about fewer and different things changes your direction in life.
- Understand that it’s OK to feel bad, or for things to go badly in life.
- Accept that pain is inevitable, and you can use it as a catalyst for improvement.
- Learn how to care about fewer things (give fewer f*cks).
Rating: 5 – Add this to your list if you haven’t already. It’s so brutally honest with a sense of humor. I enjoyed listening to this because we’ve all become victims of this image of being happy, and I see it all over social media. I had to take a break because what people portray online can be completely different in person.
Main Characters: Silas and Charlie
Summary: Charlie and Silas have been a couple since they were younger, but one morning they woke not remembering who they are and what they meant to each other. Together they find a way to uncover what happens and who they really were, and it’s not looking too good.
Rating 4 – This book is such a mystery that you want to solve from the very beginning. I kept reading trying to learn about these new characters, but they don’t even know who they are themselves. I’m sitting here wondering how does one lose their memory overnight. Drugs? Alcohol? An accident? That was my biggest question. I love a good mystery story. Two more books are continuing this story, and I can’t wait!!
