April and May’s Reading Challenge

June 20, 2020

It has been such a busy week! This mama started working after five years! Those years went by so fast, but I am so happy to be back. My daughter finishes School this week so things should ease up a bit. *cross fingers* =)

Anyway, I combined the last two months of the books I listened too. Five books aren’t so bad for two months. I love listening to stories while I multitask, cooking, or cleaning. Haha!

Here’s my list:

The Couple Next Door: If you’re a parent, this would probably get you thinking like WTF!!! The story starts with this lovely young couple, Anne and Marco get invited over to a neighbors house for dinner. Their neighbor, Cynthia was not a fan of children so the couple decided to leave their baby alone in their house before joining their neighbor for dinner. They thought it was a good idea at the time and brought over a baby monitor! WHAT! I can’t even begin with this! After a few hours, the baby has gone missing.

It has opened up a lot of secrets, betrayal, and lies that lies within the couple, their neighbor, and Anne’s family. My jaw dropped when I finished this story. This story is so crazy!!

A Man Called Ove: Listening to this story reminded me of the Disney movie UP. It’s a story about a grumpy old man, who seems to dislikes everyone right away. He is set on his principles, strict on his routines, and has a very short temper.

The story starts with some new neighbors moving in next door. They accidentally smashed Ove’s mailbox. This opened up conversations between the neighbors and surprisingly new friendships. You learn more about Ove story, which is a bit sweet and sad at the same time.

The Other Woman: Have you seen Monster-In-Law with Jennifer Lopez, because this is precisely the same story? Of course, there is a twist to it tho. Adam and Emily are your typical couple who wants to fall in love and settle down, but not without a challenge from his Mama. She will go to any extent to not let this happen, but the reasons will shock you!!

Where the Crawdads Sing: My heart goes out to Kya. She was a “Marsh girl,” that’s what everyone called her. She was poor and raised into a broken family. She had an abusive father, a mother who abandoned her family, eventually, her siblings left as well. Kya stayed, she had to grow up quickly and learn basic principles of surviving–cooking, cleaning, making an income, etc.

Everything was fine until the day she opened her heart to Chase Andrews. A charming young man who deceived her! Rumors spread quickly about her character. Then, one day Chase ends up dead, and all fingers pointed to Kya.

Silent Patient: This is some twisted psychological thriller you need to add to your list! Ha! This is a story about Alicia, a famous painter. She had the perfect job, a loving husband, and a beautiful home. What if I told you she shot her husband 5 times! After that night, Alicia never spoke again. This story is about what happened the night her husband died. It raised so many questions. Did she really kill him? Why on earth did she stop talking?
